herbert von karajanplatz
the herbert von karajanplatz has been named after the famous conductor. it is surrounded by our house, the university, the festival hall, the spectacular face of the mountain "mönchsberg" and the horse pond. here the horses of the archiepiscopal guard, which were kept in the hofmarstall stables (todays festival hall), were washed and it was here where the "via principalis" - the princely boulevard into the dombezirk (cathedral's quarter) - began. today it is known as the "most beautiful pause foyer of the world".
the blaue gans's atmospheric guest garden lies just opposite.
